Family Poems, Poetry about Family

Grandparents

Few can bring the warmth
We can find in their embrace,
And little more is needed to bring love
Than the smile on their face.

They’ve a supply of precious stories,
Yet they’ve time to wipe a tear,
Or give us reasons to make us laugh,
They grow more precious through the years.

I believe that God sent us Grandparents
As our legacy from above,
To share the moments of our life,
As extra measures of His love.

Love to My Daughter

Alison my daughter, there’s no one like you
My little girl, my child number two
But sharing first place in my heart
And I still loved you, after we were torn apart

You are back in my life once again
And making me the happiest of men
My baby girl, now you’re all grown
After years, hearing your voice on the phone

We both cried, you and I
And happiness was the reason why
You’re filling the empty space in my soul
I’m a daddy again, now I feel whole

Akison seeing you again, after all these years
Expressing our love with words, hugs and tears
Five days together, how fast they did fly
On the plane flying home, I had to cry

And finding out you are a poet too
My gift of words was given to you
The next time we’re together we’ll write a poem
Run off extra copies, for you to take home

Alison my baby, you live so far away
But I promise to call you each and every day
To tell you I love you and so much more
How happy I am, as I was once before

Vist or phone call, when it’s time to say goodbye
It’s all I can do not to break down and cry
For you my daughter, I will try to be strong
Because in your eyes, my tears don’t belong

Mom

t’s wonderful knowing someone is there,
Someone to talk to, someone to care,
Someone who always knows just what to do…
It’s always been wonderful knowing there’s you.
It’s wonderful having someone who gives
Something worthwhile to each day that she lives,
Someone whose thoughtfulness always shows through…
It’s always been wonderful,
Mom, having you.

Mother

Best friends forever mum and me,
Picking flowers and climbing trees,
A shoulder to cry on secrets to share,
Warm hearts and hands that really care.

My Daughter

My Daughter means the world to me!
So much out there for her to see!
I’d like to take her in my arms,
and show her the world and all it’s charms.
As she grows a little day by day,
God lights the path, to guide her on her way.
As she blooms out like a precious flower,
She will always know God’s wonderful power

My Little Man

Today my son becomes a man,
But I can’t let him go.
I’ve nurtured him for eighteen years
And no one else can know.

The doctors said he wouldn’t live
But tiny lies they told.
We did it all, son, hand in hand.
Now you’re eighteen years old.

If we knew then what we know now,
Would life have been the same?
We’ll never know for sure,
my boy,
But so much did we gain.

We gained control,
we gained respect,
We gained a lot of love.
But we didn’t do it all alone,
There was guidance from above.

Someday I hope you’ll come to know
I did all that I could.
I know at times I seemed quite harsh
But it was for your own good.

Those words come easy for a mom.
Someday you might agree.
But let me tell you,
I am proud And you’re the only son for me.

Please Daddy

Please, Daddy, please be patient
Don’t spank me and don’t yell
I need your love and understanding
If I‘m to learn things well.

Please, Daddy, spend some time with me
Let’s have some fun and smile
Don’t tell me you’re too busy
I’m only little for awhile.

Please, Daddy, could you take my hand
And kindly show me things?
Please don’t make me walk too fast
My little legs aren’t wings.

Please, Daddy, would you read to me
Answering my questions as we go?
Please don’t get impatient
How else am I to know?

Please, Daddy, if I make mistakes
Explain what I’ve done wrong
Don’t just yell and punish me
It hurts me all day long.

Please, Daddy, if I make you proud
Please tell me when I do
You’ve no idea how much it means
Because I’m also proud of you!

Please, Daddy, won’t you hug me lots?
Let’s show how much we care
As I grow and learn each day
I need you to be there……

Relationship of Mother and Daughter

You can see it in their eyes,
in tender hugs and long good-byes,
a love that only moms and daughters know.

You can see it in their smiles,
through passing years and changing styles,
a friendship that continually seems to grow.

You can see it in their lives,
the joy each one of them derives,
in just knowing that the other one is there…

To care and to understand,
lend an ear or hold a hand,
and to celebrate the memories they share.

To My Daughters

You’re a precious thought to me,
A treasure to my heart.
You’re a daughter who has
played A very special part.

All the beauty life can give
Is summarized in you.
I am proud and I am glad
That life presented you.

In your own compelling way
I see that you’re unique.
I am confident you’ll reach
The very goals you seek.

Your growth and progress always are
So charming to behold.
It is such a wondrous thing
To watch your life unfold.

All my love and all my hopes
Give time a special hue.
All my days and all my years
Are full because of you.

Walk a little Plainer Daddy

“Walk a little plainer, Daddy”
said a little boy so frail.
“I’m following in your footsteps
And I don’t want to fail.
Sometimes your steps are very plain,
Sometimes they are hard to see.
So walk a little plainer,
Daddy, for you are leading me.”

“I know that once you walked this way
many years ago.
And what you did along the way
I’d really like to know.
For sometime when I am tempted
I don’t know what to do.
So walk a little plainer, Daddy
for I must follow you.”

“Someday when I’m grown up,
you are like I want to be.
Then I will have a little boy,
who will want to follow me.
And I would want to lead him right
and help him to be true.
So walk a little plainer,
Daddy For we must follow you.”
